what do you guys think of the wall street occupation?

I debate the validity of that poster. I disagree with most of the points the original poster in question raised.

I tired of this debate.

Why are you so selfish? I think this is the epitome of a bad argument, empirical evidence doesn't hold up.

I agree we need to have a full debate on the topic, it is a pity that no one likes to debate anymore. You really do understand this point, so I'll take your tacit support and turn it into a positive for myself, since you agree with a tangent of my post, I'm making it appear that you have similar ground with me so you'll be more likely to agree with my point, even if they aren't related. so what's the threshold size of a social organism for it to cause people to transition their behavior from nate-style ic.com interaction to lurking ala nate-style reddit.com interaction?

Posting on a sight like Reddit is like swimming upstream against an unstoppable force. The comments get thrown to the bottom within seconds if it isn't perfect *and* lucky.

Reddit is just massive.

Not sure where the threshold is, but I think it's a combination of many factors. Even if it wasn't just about the upstream momentum, the posting style and feel is different. It's almost like a title and a thumbnail can tell 90% of the story.

The best thing to do on Reddit is to post some Ron Paul quotes into a Ron Paul fap-thread, preferably the one about there not being any separation between church and state, and watch it get downvoted by the hivemind. Bunch of morons on that site.

Your mistake is clicking on comments then clicking reply. The "hivemind" is skewed to liberal college twenty somethings. Figured that would mesh well with your views, but I guess you found a way to clash still.

You made a stupid comment, got down voted, and now assume it's heavily slanted towards liberals?

No? I've read the fucking comments numerous times. They are *clearly* biased towards a liberal base. This is looking from a front page viewpoint.

Obviously if you go into sub-reddits like /r/christianity or /r/guns your mileage will differ greatly.

Honestly, if you can't see the extreme liberal bias on reddit just from reading the comments, I will help to show you.

I did a bit of research and found this handy reddit created poll.

Nearly 30k responses to the survey.

Gender

Male: 84%

Female: 16%

Age

Under 18: 6%

18-25: 56%

25-35: 29%

35-45: 5%

45-65: 2%

65+: .5%

Sexuality

Straight: 92%

Gay: 3%

Bi: 5%

Country

US: 80%

UK: 10%

Canada: 4%

Australia: 4%

Other:2% (Mostly Netherlands, Scandinavia, Japan, Korea, Qatar, Jordan, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand)

Income

Unemployed: 4%

Student: 44%

$15 -30: 11%

$30 - 45: 9%

$45-60: 8%

$60-80: 8%

$80-100: 5%

$100-150: 6%

$150+:4%

Politics

Centrist Left: 54%

Centrist Right: 13%

Conservative Right:2%

Fascist: 1%

Anarchist: 5%

How further to the left can a group actually be? 77% Socialist+Democrat. 80% male. 85% 18-35. That's a heavily leaning young male, liberal, straight group...

Can we agree that my statement was correct? Or do you want to challenge my source or disagree with my interpretation?

They are young, which does tend to be more liberal (hence all those OH MY GOD, THIS GAY PERSON IS BEING MISTREATED threads), but they're also stupid. Very, very stupid. They're the kinds of people who started occupy wall street, but want to vote ron paul because he doesn't mind drugs and hates foreign wars.

Honestly, if I had to stereotype all of reddit, I'd stereotype them as college sophomores who smoke weed all the time, redditing as they hang out at their local, independently-operated $5 coffee shop and sharing upvotes based on whoever's there.

Yeah, its pretty leftist. I mean its not socialist or anything. There are some conservative portions, but I've never bothered to read them. In general, its young college kids - almost always liberal-leaning voters. I would say they are overly idealistic and not very mature in their analysis, most of the time. Which is probably because they're young college kids.

Pointing out that young liberals are stupid is like pointing out that the sun rises in the east. It's true, but it's not an earth-shattering revelation.

Meh. College kids have idealistic, simplistic liberalism, and conservative teenagers have their Ayn Rand. They're both dumb. Sad thing is you never left yours, huh.
